Tabletop Gaming

Our Tabletop Gaming room at Ikasucon is top notch! We have a wide variety of games for free play. Our staff will be providing a multitude of events and tournaments, and they’ll be on hand to help you try out a new game during all open hours.

Galatune

Galatune

Ikasucon is thrilled to be partnering up with the creators of the upcoming indie game Galatune in 2016! Featuring artwork by the amazing YamerPro (who you may recognize as Ikasucon’s Lead Artist), Galatune is a collectible card game set on the fantasy planet of Lyra. The United World Government of Lyra rules with an iron fist by monopolizing the use of reclaimed ancient technologies that are much more advanced than that of the planet’s citizens. Decide where you stand on the future of the planet as up to four players face off in an exciting fast-paced battle with all players taking their turns simultaneously. Be sure to stop in to our Tabletop room to play a demo, and keep an eye on the schedule for game design panels hosted by Galatune’s creators!

The Gauntlet

All weekend long players will compete in The Gauntlet: a grueling test of a tabletop gamer’s tenacity and skill. Play games, win points, and do your best to be on top when it comes to the final showdown. The Gauntlet culminates on Sunday where the players with the twenty highest point scores will compete. When we’re down to the final four players they’ll compete in a game of Red Dragon Inn 4 using the Sea Event Deck for the grand prize: a free admission to Ikasucon 2017.

Cards Against Humanity

Often described as Apples to Apples for horrible people the always crowd-favorite Cards Against Humanity goes around the table attempting to impress a rotating Judge with dirty jokes from the selection of cards. Cards Against Humanity is 18+ only and scheduled during our Late Night hours.

CCGs

In addition to many rounds of Galatune being demo’d throughout the weekend, our Tabletop staff will also be hosting two major CCG events this year: a Hearthstone Tournament and a Magic: the Gathering Commander Challenge. Check out the rules for both of these events below.

Hearthstone Tournament

Our Hearthstone tournament will be played using Conquest format. Conquest means that each player builds a deck for three different classes and has to win a game with each of those classes. Blizzard has released a detailed video on the Conquest format that you can reference.

Deck construction will be limited to Standard which excludes the Goblins vs Gnomes & Naxxramas expansions.

Hearthstone is free to play and can be played on most mobile devices and computers. For more information on Hearthstone itself and to create an account visit http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en.

Magic: the Gathering Commander Challenge

Magic: the Gathering has been a staple of the gaming world for many years. Ikasucon is very excited to bring it to the table, so to speak.

Players will accumulate Victory Points by playing Commander games throughout the weekend. Those points will contribute to their entry on a leader board. We are using these Commander rules, but have made the following three changes:

  1. 20 Poison counters are required to defeat a player. This change is to reflect the 2 Headed Giant rule for increased life total.
  2. Commander damage will not eliminate a player. However, Commander damage will award a Victory Point.
  3. Iona, Shield of Emeria is banned.

Victory Points are awarded once per game per player. Players may gain Victory Points in the following ways:

  • Casting your Commander from the Command Zone. [once per game]
  • Inflicting the first combat damage of the game.
  • Defeating another player.
  • Saving another player from being defeated by an opponent.
  • Inflicting 21 points of Commander damage to another player.
  • Inflicting combat damage exceeding the starting life of a player in one turn.
  • Eliminating an attacking Commander belonging to an opponent.
  • Eliminating an attacking creature with an Annihilator (or similar) effect.
  • Using the ultimate ability of a Planeswalker (Gideon Jura, Sarkhan the Mad, etc do not have ultimate abilities).
  • Eliminating an enemy Planeswalker that has enough Loyalty to activate the ultimate ability.
  • Winning with an alternate win condition (Mortal Combat, Laboratory Maniac, etc).
  • Be the last surviving player of a game with at least 4 players. 2 Headed Giant Commander Games are excluded.

In addition to the Victory Points listed above, bonus Victory Points may be awarded at the end of the game for significant accomplishments or outstanding plays. Examples include:

  • Casting the Commander from the Command Zone the most time.
  • Playing the most cards which benefit all players by allowing them to draw cards, generate mana, play additional land, etc.
  • Casting an X spell with the highest converted mana cost.
We’re all here to have fun but sometimes players are kept from actually playing the game with that in mind there are additional bonus Victory Points awarded to players on the receiving end of some less than fun casualties of competitive Commander play.
  • If you are the victim of 5+ mana producing lands being destroyed (and not replaced) by an opponent.
  • If you are the victim of having your life total set to a lower value and killed before your next turn. Examples: Sorin Markov, Magister Sphinx, etc.
  • If an opponent has taken 3+ turns in a row.
